Composition is the placement of a visual element on artwork. You want to bring the eyes towards the center or interest. Value is the lightness or darkness of a color. It is important to use value because it adds more detail and contour. Charcoal drawingThis was my favorite piece to do out of the three drawing projects. I liked how if you messed up it was easy to blend it in and start over. I also loved how easy it was to add value because the charcoal is so dark and you can highlight specific parts by using an eraser or white chalk. Although this was my favorite I did not like how hard it was to make tiny details in this piece. Every time I would try to add a little detail it would either not be dark enough or I would accidentally brush up against it and it would disappear. Pencil drawingDuring this project I struggled with making it look realistic as I wanted it. I liked how I could blend the pencil out to add a shadow and make it look more smooth. I wish I would have chosen a different picture to draw that didn't have as much little detail. I had trouble making the water look like water. Pen and ink drawingMy favorite part of this project was the stippling. I chose to use all of the different types of pen and ink techniques. My least favorite part of this project was trying to make all of the different techniques flow together. I also didn't like how you couldn't erase or blend a mistake out. Every movement you made on the paper was permanent.

I chose Fan Yanting for my inspired artist because I love the work that they have created. Yanting is from Taiwan, although I couldn’t find anything about them online their artwork tells you a lot about them. You can tell that this started out as a fun project for them and it turned into a profit. They have made so many different pots vases and mugs to sell to people around the world. Yanting says that people are often drawn to the facial expressions because it could remind them of someone they know or love. I personally like these pieces because I think they’re fun to look at and useful. Pottery usually decorated and carved in the same way when it comes to vases and mugs. The facial expressions put a twist on the artwork
